Christmas is nearly here and while it can be a time of great fun and festivities it’s important to make sure you prioritise your own well-being too. Christmas can often be a time of great stress but especially after this year you might be feeling extra pressure to create the perfect Christmas. We’ve put together our top tips to make sure you look after yourself during the festive season.
Find time for yourself everyday
Yes I know you have a million things to do, but you will be a better friend, partner and parent if you look after yourself and that means a good dose of ‘me time’. This can be first thing in the morning, in the evening after the kids are in bed, or even whilst they’re playing a game or watching TV. A few well-chosen minutes to myself means I can recharge and reset myself.
Listen to your body
When you have a lot on it can be easy to disconnect from yourself. Take a rest if you’re tired, drink (water 😂) if you’re dehydrated, eat if you’re hungry. Try and do some exercise, even if it’s just a short, brisk walk. Don’t set yourself impossible targets just listen to what your body needs.
Forget about the perfect house
Your home might not be spotless but it will be filled with a lot more fun if you relax about the extra mess. Keep on top of things if it causes you extra stress but Christmas is not the time for a deep clean. Breathe and relax. It can wait.
Find a quiet space
Run a bath. Close the bedroom door. Claim the chair in the sitting room. Just find a spot where you can escape the noise if you need to and relax and reflect. Light a candle and enjoy the quiet!
Be mindful about what you eat
It’s Christmas and for most of us that means indulging and that’s fine! However try to aim for 80/20 where 80% of the time you eat nutrient dense food to ensure your body is getting everything it needs. Your mind and body will thank you.
And not a really a tip but most importantly try to relax and enjoy yourself! It doesn’t have to be a hallmark Christmas. Just do what makes you happy and enjoy whatever you do!
